Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is seeking an Intermediate Municipal Civil Engineer to join our Municipal Infrastructure team in St. John’s, NL. We are seeking a motivated candidate who combines strong technical skills with proven abilities in design and project management. The successful candidate will have experience in a variety of municipal infrastructure projects including, but not limited to, municipal utilities (storm and sanitary sewers, water transmission and distribution, water and wastewater treatment), utility master planning, asset management, roads and transportation, and will have demonstrated increasing levels of technical challenge and responsibility over their career.

The successful candidate will work in a team environment with the support of experienced senior and junior technical staff. Intermediate staff are expected to be self - starters with strong technical knowledge and familiarity with local municipal development processes. They must also support the growth of the business and support the development of younger staff. This will include project management and building client relationships. Suitable candidates will enjoy working in a team environment and bring strengths in oral and written communication.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical knowledge and project management within a growing municipal engineering team
• Lead project execution on projects in water transmission and distribution, sanitary and storm sewers, reservoirs, pump stations, pressure booster stations and lift stations, site grading and drainage, municipal permitting and approvals
• Manage and deliver municipal engineering projects
• Direct small multidisciplinary teams through planning, design, and construction phases
• Participate in business development and lead key project pursuits
• Client liaison and relationship management
• Prepare correspondence, reports, proposals, expressions of interest, and specifications to support projects or pursuits
• Manage and / or review projects from the proposal stage through to completion, including allocation of budgets, personnel and resources, billing and client relationships
• Participate in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work
• When required, work collaboratively with other departments and Wood offices on project related work
• Provide financial and budget control on projects
• Other duties as assigned
• Some Travel through - out Newfoundland and Labrador will be required

Skills / Qualifications

• Eng. or B. Sc. in Civil Engineering; M. Sc. or M. Eng. in Civil Engineering or PMP designation is an asset
• Proven track record in managing the design and construction of municipal projects along with a history of developing client relationships
• Ability to prepare proposals
• Motivated to enhance and provide growth opportunities to a municipal design team
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in municipal engineering, with considerable experience on project work in Canada or the USA
• Registered with or eligible for registration as a P. Eng. with PEGNL
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Experience with municipal engineering projects, including specific design and construction experience in water, sanitary and stormwater projects for both new project works and renewal and replacement of existing infrastructure systems
• Strong knowledge of the NL municipal market
• Experience and training in project management
• The ability to mentor more junior staff
• Experience in water, wastewater and / or storm water system modelling
