Our Safety & Security Division, is seeking two (2) Bus Safety Officers to manage the development of the Safety Program and monitor ongoing alignment with legal and regulatory requirements and/or the GO Transit Safety Management System (SMS).
Plans, develops, and implements safety management programs to eliminate hazards, mitigate risk, and align with the GO Safety Management System.
Investigates and analyzes accidents and incidents, describes root causes makes recommendations for process improvement or development; tracks and analyzes accident and injury trends to identify areas for improvement and development, and recommend intervention strategies that enhance safety awareness and reduce accidents; prepares safety performance reports for management review.
Audits the work of external contractors to identify safety hazards associated with equipment maintenance and rehabilitation; maintains contractor safety records and coordinates the required roll-up to System Safety record keeping.
Coordinates with a variety of internal departments to establish annual safety objectives and performance indicators; attends meetings with various internal departments to ensure organizational cohesiveness; coordinates with management to develop safety goals, objectives, safety initiatives, and actions plans.
Collaborates and Liaises with external stakeholders, including other transit agencies, and the Ministry of Transportation (MTO).
Liaises with external contractors and safety representatives, and reviews contracts and safety management plans for adherence with safety programs; provides recommendations to meet GO safety requirements.
Prepares reports describing results of Risk Analysis and supporting Standard Operating Procedures.
Reports on and investigates critical incidents; investigates or provides close-out of investigations performed by external contractors; coordinates or facilitates complex investigations.
Develops and implements safety related programs and practices throughout the department; trains internal staff, and audits contractor safety and training materials for adherence to established procedures and to recommend changes.
Location: Toronto, Ontario
Completion of a degree in a related discipline or combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
Minimum six (6) years’ experience developing and coordinating activities in Bus Operations or Transportation Industry
Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) certification would be considered an asset.
Knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements governing transportation (e.g. Highway Traffic Act, Railway Safety Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act) to develop, maintain, and grow safety knowledge including industry best practices and pending changes in legislation
Strong interpersonal and oral/written/presentation communication skills to develop and implement safety related programs and practices, deliver training, and manage stakeholder relationships.
