Postdoctoral Research Associate
Texas A&M AgriLife Research - Amarillo
A postdoctoral position is available at Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center in Amarillo, TX to study water use efficiency in various vegetable production systems, primarily tomato, and melons. Production systems will include open field drip irrigation, center pivot sprinkler irrigation (LESA), center pivot mobile drip irrigation (MDI), and high tunnel production. Specific research objectives will involve 1) quantifying soil-plant water relations, economic yield, water use efficiency and total water use for high value specialty crops produced under different irrigation production systems, 2) examine the effect of the different irrigation systems on root growth and development, and 3) compare the Irrigation Scheduling and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (ISSCADA) system with neutron scattering for vegetable irrigation management under MDI and LESA. The postdoctoral associate will be expected to collect data and evaluate field experiments in the selected vegetable systems that will result in timely preparation and submission of manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national scientific meetings. The scientist will be expected to work collaboratively with a group of multidisciplinary researchers in Amarillo and around the state, supervise technical staff, graduate students and student workers, and engage with the public through outreach when appropriate. The successful candidate will participate in development and coordination of competitive grant proposals and have the opportunity for presentation of guest lectures in the Department of Agricultural Sciences at West Texas A&M University, Canyon, TX.

The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Horticulture, Agronomy, Ag Engineering, or a related discipline, with emphasis on abiotic stress and plant/soil/water relations in vegetable production systems and have extensive experience in design, execution, and analyses of field research on vegetable production systems. The successful candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills as evidenced by publication record and presentations at professional meetings. |
