Job Summary
Senior Electrical Engineer, will collaborate with the sales, development, design, and operations teams on a day-to-day basis to facilitate effective integration of solar, energy storage technologies, generation, microgrid, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Analysis of existing electrical system infrastructure via site walks at customer locations or by reviewing as built drawings, site plans, or other architectural documents.
- Develops an understanding of the various energy incentives and market drivers for each state and system operator.
- Develops distributed energy design solutions maximizing value to customers.
- Develops detailed layouts and indicative electrical designs for solar PV systems.
- Produces Single-Line Diagrams and other supporting drawings and calculations for the purposes of obtaining equipment and subcontractor quotes for the use in internal budgets.
- Specifies system requirements, including equipment and balance of plant.
- Maintains relevant industry knowledge of current hardware, software platforms, and industry trends.
- Ensures compliance to all NEC, OSHA codes and requirements.
- Assists in obtaining equipment, subcontractor, and material pricing with an accurate labor estimate for projects.
- Works with other team members to develop budgetary pricing.
- Manages architectural and engineering teams for budgeting, design, and permit plan preparation.
- Reviews permit plan sets for consistency with design intent and contractual, code, trade, and jurisdictional requirements.
- Completes financial modeling of systems demonstrating overall customer benefits.
- Works with Sales and other team members in the development of customer proposals and presentations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Working knowledge of Solar Service Agreements (SSA) and Power Purchasing Agreements (PPA) delivery model.
- Highly knowledgeable in behind the meter distributed energy applications including solar, energy storage, EV charging and microgrid applications.
- Familiarity with design software such as Energy Toolbase, HELIOSCOPE, NREL SAM , PVSYST and PV Watts.
- Familiarity with National Electric Code (NEC) with emphasis on Article 690.
- Familiarity with state and federal level policy implications, and ability to interpret policy outcomes for regional development opportunities.
- Familiarity with communication protocols and SCADA / Data Acquisition Systems and commissioning processes
- Successful track record in a complex sales or project development environment, preferably in energy efficiency, solar, and/or energy storage fields.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Familiarity with state and federal level policy implications, and ability to interpret policy outcomes for regional development opportunities.
- Ability to both lead and follow in a cross-functional team environment.
- Understanding of key quantitative business concepts, including both probabilistic thinking and financial metrics (NPV, IRR, etc.).
Travel Required
- Ability to spend time in-person with customers and travel frequently in assigned territory (20-50% travel) may be required.

Required Experience
- Minimum seven (7) years of experience in the solar, energy storage, or energy efficiency industry.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience performing design calculations, solar photovoltaic system layouts and designs, related site visits and fieldwork for residential / commercial / industrial facilities.
- Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Proficiency in reading construction documents including architectual, electrical, structural, and civil plans.
Educational/Certification Requirement
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of study.
