Director of Transportation
Annual salary range: $190,790 to $227,756

The Director of Transportation manages, plans, and organizes the delivery of transportation services; and provides technical direction and supervision over approximately 1500 employees that includes 10 direct reports. In addition, the Director develops and manages the Transportation Department budget of well over $250 million.

The District is seeking a strong leader with an in-depth knowledge of bus transportation and yard operations. The ideal candidate will have experience working with an elected board and unions. Deep knowledge of transportation, preferably buses; bus yard operations; dispatch, is a must. The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator who is able to establish relationships of trust with both internal and external stakeholders. Strong leadership skills, emotional intelligence; a solid ethical foundation; a vision for the future; the ability to develop and promote a diverse and productive work force environment and to lead, manage, and supervise his team while holding them accountable will be vital for this position.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: Eight (8) years of increasingly responsible experience in transportation operations that included five (5) years of management level transportation experience and responsibilities equivalent to an AC Transit Transportation Superintendent. Additional experience over the minimum will be considered in lieu of the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in transportation planning, public administration, business administration, or a directly related field.
