MCDOT seeks a candidate for the Transportation Systems Technician I/II (Overhead) position in the Transportation Management Section within the Division of Traffic Engineering & Operations. The person is a detail-oriented problem-solver who can create innovative solutions. Good interpersonal and communication and basic computer skills are desired. The person in this position will prioritize, organize, and multitask to meet deadlines and simultaneously follow through with multiple projects. The selected candidate must be able to work independently, as part of a team, or in group settings to meet established goals. Speaking clearly and distinctively with a diverse population and over a two-way radio is essential. Basic electrical or electronic foundation or construction techniques are essential for learning about traffic signal technologies.
The candidate must be able to work rotating shifts on weekdays, weekends, holidays, and standby. The ideal candidate has a valid Commercial Driver’s License or bucket truck experience.
Experience in one or more of the following relevant knowledge and ability areas is desirable:
Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License
Bucket truck experience.
Basic electrical foundation or construction techniques.
Strict observance of safety precautions and procedures is required since much of the work involves working with and around electrical voltage and high-powered equipment and/or working from extended heights. Employees in this class must possess good strength and agility in order to repeatedly lift objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds and to be able to occasionally maneuver objects up to one hundred (100) pounds.
Transportation Systems Technician I - Overhead Construction
Experience: One (1) year of experience involving electrical wiring and intersection set up of traffic signal control devices and related equipment.
Education: Completion of high school or High School Certificate of completion recognized in the State of Maryland supplemented by completion of either formal school or on-the-job training in electrical wiring appropriate to traffic signal control devices.
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
Physical Ability: Ability to lift objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds and to be able to occasionally maneuver objects weighing up to one hundred (100) pounds.
License: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) from the applicant’s state of residence. Note: There is no substitution for this section.
Transportation Systems Technician II - Overhead Construction
Experience: Three (3) years of experience involving electrical wiring and intersection set up of traffic signal control devices and related equipment.
Education: Completion of high school or High School Certificate of completion recognized in the State of Maryland supplemented by completion of either formal school or on-the-job training in electrical wiring appropriate to traffic signal control devices.
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
