This position provides support for the Greensboro Department of Transportation Engineering Division-Development Services Section Services. Under general supervision, performs various assignments and performs field inspections. Produces functional drawings for a variety of departmental projects; makes general calculations in connection with field and office assignments; responds to requests for service and develops solutions. Reviews engineering plans, associated permits, and traffic impact studies. Conducts preliminary research on various projects. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with residents, city staff, and outside agencies ensuring compliance with GDOT, City, State and Federal requirements, standards and policies. Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
Engineering Technician - Safety Section
This position provides support for the Greensboro Department of Transportation Engineering Division-Safety Section. Under general supervision, performs various assignments, performs field inspections and data collection. Makes general calculations in connection with field and office assignments; responds to request for service and develops solutions. Reviews engineering plans and associated permits. Conducts preliminary research on various projects. Attends and assists with neighborhood meetings. Prepares a wide variety of visual aids including study findings, collision diagrams and functional drawings. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with residents, city staff and outside agencies ensuring compliance with GDOT, City, State and Federal requirements, standards and policies. Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
This job is Non-Exempt under FLSA.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate’s Degree with 1-3 years of related experience in Engineering or Transportation-related field
"OR" High School Diploma/GED with 5-8 years of related experience in Engineering or Transportation-related field
Valid Driver's License
An Ideal Candidate Would Also Possess (Preferred Qualifications):
Experience and/or knowledge of transportation engineering principles and practices
Experience utilizing AutoCAD or similar Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) package in developing detailed design plans and cost estimates
Experience reading and interpreting engineering plans, specifications and technical reports
Experience performing detailed GIS data collection and analysis using ESRI ArcMap or other GIS computer packages
